The Opportunity

Your primary responsibility will be to use your knowledge of JavaScript, HTML and CSS to improve our Mercatus web applications. This will also mean contributing to application optimization through code audits, refactoring, and caching. You will collaborate closely with Design, Engineering and QA to spec, build, test and deploy new features. Most importantly, you’ll contribute to our innovation.

Who Should Apply

You’re excited to combine your technical skills and understanding of the principles of usability to turn wireframes into production ready interfaces. You are familiar with using Agile methodology and have demonstrated success transforming user stories into clean, maintainable code. You are creative, forward thinking and have the desire and insight to challenge the status quo and contribute to making applications as intuitive and user friendly as they can be. Oh, and you’re great at interacting with fellow humans.

Requirements:

  • Very comfortable with modern JavaScript frameworks (AngularJS, Angular, React, Vue...)
  • 3+ years of experience building scalable web applications.
  • Experience with package managers (NPM, Yarn, Composer...)
  • Experience in building responsive layouts.
  • Very comfortable with Git and the GitFlow branching model.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with utility libraries (Underscore/Lodash) and front-end build tools (Gulp, Webpack...).
  • Some experience with back-end coding, especially PHP.
  • Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress...).
  • Very comfortable with the command line.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Chrome Inspector.

We’d be really impressed if you have:

  • Extensive knowledge of CMS systems (Drupal, Wordpress, OctoberCMS...)
  • Experience with server-side rendering frameworks (Nuxt.js, Next.js...)
  • Some knowledge of the Chrome Timeline.
  • Heap Inspector and other performance tracking tools.
  • Experience with more esoteric libraries (momentjs, google maps...).
  • Adopted the TDD approach to coding.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles (coupling and cohesion, separation of concerns, DRY)
  • Experience in performing automated deployments.
