Mercatus is looking for a Data Engineer who will play a significant role in building the next generation of retail data driven products. As a Data Engineer, you will be immersed in the data produced throughout the entire grocery shopper’s journey. Your responsibilities are to govern, steward, and make accessible the vast amount of data necessary for deeper insights and analytic outputs, destined to be productized in Mercatus’ Digital Engagement, Digital Commerce and Personalization products.
We are looking for someone with a track record of enabling and facilitating BI and analytics initiatives, solving retail industry problems. Technical skills should include proficiency with data mining and preparation, database warehouses, cloud computing, big data, and programming.Key Deliverables:
Data governance, stewardship and issue resolution
Data accessibility for company analysts and data scientists
Collaborate with product, analysts, and engineering to solve for BI and analytic business requirements
Create large-scale batch scalable data pipelines (ETL).
Write complex queries on large, heterogeneous data sets, make it easily accessible, and optimize the performance of our data platform.
Catalog and facilitate access to a broad range of data sets that are: structured and semi-structured, internally and externally sourced, large in volume, complex in nature, and diverse in format.
Continuously optimize testing and tooling to improve data quality.
Employ best-practices practices in continuous integration and delivery.
Support company analysts and data scientists with mission-critical data accessibility
Work with other engineers to evolve our data platform stack.
Substantive software engineering experience and a proven track record of writing elegant, maintainable code in languages like Python.
A minimum of 4 years of experience creating reliable data pipelines, combining and transforming data from sources to consumption, and architecting data stores.
Experience with one or more data processing frameworks.
Hands on experience with schema design, data modeling, and data storage techniques.
Superior SQL skills and are familiar with SQL-like languages.
Experience with open source RDBMSes like MySQL, No-SQL like Redis.
Previous experience in an ecommerce or grocery retail
Business Intelligence tools, such as Looker, Tableau, or similar
Experience working with AWS data products (DynamoDB, Redshift, SageMaker, Glue)
Experience with Stitch, Snowflake, Airflow, Ambari, Hadoop, Hive or Spark
