The Opportunity:

Mercatus’ DevOps engineers are tasked with the ongoing management of Mercatus’ infrastructure within AWS (from QA through to Production). To be successful in the role, the DevOps Engineer needs to be a problem solver, naturally curious and a strong desire to automate repetitive and routine tasks.

 

Responsibilities:

 

The DevOps Engineer role at Mercatus includes (but is not limited to): 

  • Automation of deployments and routine tasks in to our CI/CD pipelines

  • Enhance infrastructure and application monitoring and alerting 

  • Provide operational support and troubleshooting to other departments (ie: CS, engineering)

  • Ensuring infrastructure and data security and integrity 

  • Optimizing server hardware for cost and performance

  • Participate in a 24x7 on call rotation 

  • Maintain >99% uptime to ensure SLA targets are maintained 

 

Technical Skills: 

 

  • Have 3+ years of experience with automated provisioning, Cloud Infrastructure, Continuous Integration, Deployment Pipelines

  • Hands on experience working with cloud infrastructure and services in AWS

  • Experience using tools such as: Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Spinnaker and other automation tool sets 

  • Experience with CI/CD tool like Jenkins, Bamboo, CircleCI, TravisCI, or GitLab

  • Experience with virtualization and container solutions (ie. Docker, Kubernetes, etc)

  • Understanding of a relevant scripting language (eg: python. bash) 

  • Experience with search engines like Elasticsearch or Solr 

  • Experience with databases like MySQL or Postgres

  • Experience with monitoring tools such as New Relic or Datadog

 

Soft skills: 

 

  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts

  • Passionate individual that believes in culture and teamwork

  • Knowledge of best practices in always up and always available environment 

  • Ability to collaborate with others 

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems 

  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn new things
