The Opportunity: 

Mercatus is looking for a Data Analyst who will play a significant role in building the next generation of retail data driven products. As a Data Analyst, you will explore the entire grocery shopper’s journey, uncovering insights that drive product innovations, inform business decisions and create new revenue opportunities. Your responsibility is to increase depth of company and client insights, by creating trusted BI content and empowering company and client business users with the means to create their own insights. 

We are looking for someone with a strong retail business intelligence background, with a track record of uncovering insights. 

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Increase depth of company and client insights 
  • Develop trusted BI content for both company and client decision makers in the form of reports and dashboards 
  • Data preparation and exploration capabilities that empower a broad range of both company and client business users with autonomous production and publishing of their own insights. 
  • Collaborate with analysts, retailers and engineering to solve for BI and analytic business requirements. 
  • Discover patterns and uncover insights as you explore a broad range of data sets that are: structured to semi-structured, internally and externally sourced, large in volume, complex in nature, and diverse in format. 
  • Platform impact analysis, demonstrating company and client ROI 
  • Data visualization, creating tangible and trusted BI content for company and client decision makers through dashboards and reports 
  • Communicate discovered insights effectively with company and client decision makers 
  • Empower company and client business users with self-service analytic capabilities
  • Steer enterprise solution architects to meet BI and analytic needs 
  • Increase agility and decrease time to insight 
  • Validate user-built BI content

 

What You Bring:

  • A track record of solving problems by making use of statistical methods to extract insights from data 
  • Understanding of the grocery/retail industry and data sources available for utilization 
  • Understanding of data mining concepts, algorithms, and statistical modeling
  • Advanced data preparation and exploration, including: data manipulation and shaping, filtering, blending, hierarchy definition, transforming, analysis of web logs and other semi-structured data sources, binning, pivoting, deriving new information, and summarizing. 
  • Semantic layer development 
  • Ad-hoc reporting and querying 
  • Advanced descriptive analytic capabilities 
  • Advanced data visualization, including: use of visualization libraries, rendering of very large data sets, embedded analytics, complex representation of information like network graphs, or multilayered geographic maps. 
  • The ability to discuss in detail your techniques and discoveries to technical and non-technical audiences in a language they can understand. 
  • Basic forecasting and predictive modeling 
  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving abilities 
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts
  • Passionate individual that believes in culture and teamwork
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn new things
